Can Do! has Actively Supported...
Can Do! does not take credit for all of these accomplishments. Many individuals and groups in the greater Charlotte area have worked long and hard to, bring over $200 million of investment into the community. The Can Do! spirit played a major role in unlocking the energy that was necessary to bring this progress to pass.
Some accomplishments of the past four years that Can Do! is associated with include:
- Sponsored the development and ongoing review of a strategic plan and vision statement for the community.
- A total of six Charlotte Public Schools bond proposals worth $63 million in facility upgrades were approved by voters, including a new state-of-the-art middle school, a new community auditorium, and a new swimming complex.
- Hayes Green Beach Memorial Hospital completed a 35,000-square-foot, $7.4 million expansion, which also helped HGB recruit many new full-time doctors to our community.
- Eaton Area Senior Center (The Center) was established.
- Courthouse Square Association successfully completed an exterior restoration project.
- The Downtown Development Authority facade improvement program made a big difference in the look and feel of our central shopping district.
- Rotary Park, a set of youth athletic fields near Parkview Elementary School, has enhanced local sports programs.
- The land for a new recreational area, Lincoln Park, was acquired and is under development.
- Major retail developments included Meijer, Inc. establishing a store in Charlotte and Wal-Mart's first expansion to a Super Center in the Mid-Michigan area.
- Industrial development continued with new manufacturers in the Combs Industrial Park.
- Over 800 homes are in various stages of planning and development in the area.
- A successful new annual festival, Celebrate Charlotte, has been initiated.
- And the list continues to grow!
